The Ghost of Ventilation Issues Past And Present
Manager, Commercial Building Solutions
Aeroseal, LLC - Dayton, OH
According to recent studies by the U.S. Department of Energy and others, the ventilation systems in most U.S. buildings today have structural issues that render them ineffective and inefficient. As a result, poor indoor air quality and excessive energy use are costing American businesses billions of dollars each year in lost productivity, added medical expenses and excessive energy consumption.
While the building industry has been aware of this issue for decades, the problem has been all but ignored for one primary reason – the absence of a viable solution. With ductwork and ventilation shafts hidden behind walls or otherwise obscured from access, repairing or replacing these systems has been both excessively disruptive and cost prohibitive.
In the past few years, however, new technologies have been developed to address these problems and make ventilation remediation both viable and cost-effective. From aerosol-based sealing technology to self regulating dampers, these innovations are changing the way contractors are solving issues related to indoor air quality and energy savings. This presentation will look at the latest innovations in commercial ventilation remediation, best practices in solving ventilation issues and several examples of high-rise buildings that benefitted from the implementation of these innovations.
