The Benefits of Building Small

Jim Bahoosh

Builder and Designer

Unity, ME

Session Description

Well designed small houses have got it going on. They’re the “Fun Size” super heroes of housing: resource-efficient and easy to live in. During this talk you’ll learn design techniques to fully utilize interior space. I’ll also explain how to build a home from readily available materials, which materials to use for a healthy indoor environment and which to both use and avoid for a healthy global environment, and how to balance initial building cost with long term energy cost. If you’re interested in smaller spaces and efficient design, this talk will serve you well.

About Jim Bahoosh

A solo house builder and designer since 1984, Jim started by rebuilding old homes. In 1996, he turned his attention to new homes of traditional New England design. From 2004 to the present, his focus has been on smaller homes, ranging from 500 to 1000  square feet, still of traditional design.
