About this program:

Clear communication between mold inspectors, remediators, and clients can prevent misunderstandings and improve project outcomes. Using three real-world case studies, Deb Knight and Ben Barringer explore overlapping expectations about professional roles, mold returning after remediation, and unexpected increases in project costs. This interactive session invites participants to discuss how to establish professional boundaries, review inspection and remediation records, document next steps, and communicate changes in scope and cost while maintaining client trust.

Who Should Attend

Mold inspectors and indoor environmental consultants, Mold remediation and restoration contractors, Industrial hygienists and indoor air quality professionals, Home inspectors and building investigators, Property managers, landlords, and building owners, Facility managers and maintenance supervisors, Contractors who address moisture damage or coordinate remediation projects.

This session is especially useful for professionals who explain inspection findings, develop remediation scopes, or communicate project costs and changes to clients.

Learning Goals:

By attending this session, you will learn how to:

  • Clarify professional roles: Explain the responsibilities of mold inspectors and remediators and when to defer questions to the other professional.

  • Set clear client expectations: Communicate professional boundaries without making clients feel dismissed.

  • Evaluate recurring mold problems: Identify information in previous inspection and remediation records that can guide further investigation.

  • Document next steps: Describe how to record proposed actions and changes in the scope of work.

  • Communicate cost changes: Recognize language that can create unintended pricing expectations and explain how newly discovered conditions may affect project costs.
