Is the Building I Work in
Making Me Sick?

Scott Lawson, CIH, President
The Lawson Group, Concord, NH

About this program:

Over the last few decades, the Lawson Group has done dozens and dozens of Indoor Air Quality investigations. In the beginning we simply “tested” for the “things” people were concerned about – which we would rarely find!  We also had a bunch of unhappy customers who paid a lot to find “nothing” as far as they were concerned.  As a result, we began to involve the building occupants in finding solutions. Not surprisingly, it worked, and we have had many more successes in solving IAQ issues than failures. In fact, we are probably solving almost all the IAQ problems we are asked to investigate. As we have come to find out regarding the majority of workplace Health and Safety issues, IAQ issues are rarely “technical” issues but are almost always “people” issues.  During this session, Scott will be sharing practical strategies that successfully address IAQ concerns in a workplace environment.  If you work in Building or Facilities Management or Human Resources, or conduct indoor air quality investigations in some capacity, this presentation should equip you with many more tools to assess and mitigate IAQ complaints.

Learning Goals:

  • Understand that IAQ issues re almost always people issues

  • Mechanical systems are not always the problem

  • IAQ questions and concerns should always be promptly addressed

  • The more the occupants are involved in finding a solution the more likely you will have success

  • ALWAYS share information at all stages of an IAQ investigation
